Six questions sort the whole market. Who teaches, and what are they qualified in? How often does the retreat run, and where? What happens if something goes wrong? Does the programme prepare you for every version of birth, or one ideal one? How many women will be in the room, and are they all pregnant? Can you check the reviews somewhere the provider cannot edit?
A retreat built for pregnancy answers all six quickly and specifically. A retreat adapted for it answers vaguely. The rest of this page takes the six in turn, with the follow-up question that tells you the most in each case.
"Pregnancy retreat" is one label on at least three different products. A day of prenatal yoga with lunch. A yoga holiday that accepts pregnant guests. And a residential programme built around preparing you for birth, taught by people qualified to do it. We have written separately about what a pregnancy retreat actually is.
All three sit in the same search results with the same photographs of pools and white robes, at prices a hundred pounds to several thousand apart. The label will not tell you which one you are looking at. The six questions will.

This question divides the market in half on its own. "Wellness practitioner" and "childbirth educator" are not the same job, and a beautiful venue says nothing about either. A retreat built on teaching names its people, their qualifications and who leads each session before you ask.
At mom'z, retreats are led by Shirin Fardi, a childbirth educator and prenatal yoga teacher, and Amber Sawyer, a certified doula, birth educator, yoga instructor and midwife assistant, and childbirth educators are on site for the whole retreat.
The follow-up worth sending to any retreat: who leads the birth preparation sessions, and what is their qualification? A specific answer within a day tells you nearly as much as the answer itself.
A team hosting retreats every month in a professional setting has met your questions before, hundreds of times, and has a system for the things you have not thought to ask about yet. A retreat that happens occasionally in someone's holiday house has not.
Frequency is experience you can check: ask how many retreats they have run, and when the next three dates are. mom'z has run more than fifty retreats since 2023 and runs more pregnancy retreats than any other provider in Europe, every month of the year, currently near Barcelona, near Lisbon and in Somerset.
Nobody books a retreat for this answer, and it is the answer that matters most at 2am. Ask specifically: who is on call, how far is the nearest hospital or clinic that knows pregnancy, and who decides what happens next?
At mom'z, childbirth educators are on site for the whole retreat. Midwives are on call 24/7. A clinic specialising in prenatal care is always a short drive away. Expect the same specificity from anyone else. A retreat that answers "there's a hospital in town" has not planned for you; it has looked at a map.
A programme that only rehearses one ideal birth quietly excludes many of the women in the room. Ask what the classes cover: caesarean birth, planned and unplanned, epidurals, induction, every feeding choice, and what happens when the plan changes on the day. Ask what the teaching is based on, and whether sources are named.
Birth confidence is built, and it is built on information that covers every version of the day rather than the version everyone hopes for. At mom'z the knowledge classes run to about seven hours across the week and cover every scenario, taught from the evidence, not from one philosophy.

Above about twenty, a group becomes an audience, and the conversations that make a retreat work stop happening. Below that, ask the second half of the question: are they all pregnant? A mixed-purpose wellness week with two pregnant guests is a different experience from a room where every woman is weeks from the same threshold.
mom'z groups run at 10 to 15 women, all pregnant, all attending on their own.
Reviews on a provider's own site are a starting point. Reviews on platforms the provider cannot edit are evidence. Look for three things: volume, recency, and real names attached to specific detail.
mom'z carries more than 100 verified reviews across Trustpilot, Google and momz.eu, written by name, and every retreat since 2023 has been rated five stars. You can read what mothers actually said.
A five-star wellness resort can give you a beautiful room, a pool, and a prenatal massage on the menu, and for some women that is exactly the week they want. What a resort cannot usually give you is the other five answers: pregnancy-specialist teaching, a room of women at your stage, a programme built around birth rather than around a spa menu.
If rest alone is the goal, book the resort and enjoy it. If preparation is part of what you want, put the six questions to the resort and see how far you get. We have also written honestly about whether a pregnancy retreat is worth the money.
A page that says everyone should book is not an honest page. If you want your partner there: partners do not come, which is exactly what makes the room work, so book a hotel babymoon together instead. If you want a single day close to home, a day retreat is the right product and good ones exist. If your pregnancy is high-risk, talk to your midwife or doctor first and let their answer decide.
Most women book in the second trimester and attend between weeks 20 and 30. Women join mom'z retreats from week 14, and you can hold a place early with a deposit that refunds in full if you cancel more than 10 weeks before the start.
The six questions on this page are the safety check: qualified teachers, medical cover, and a programme that adapts to your stage. Clear it with your own midwife or doctor first, as you would any travel in pregnancy.
Most women arrive never having done anything like it. Everyone is in the same position on the first evening, which is why it works. Nothing is done to force the group together, and nobody is left out.
Airlines carry most single pregnancies into the mid-30s of weeks, with a fit-to-fly letter from week 28. Our airline-by-airline guide has every carrier's cutoff in one table.
For a residential retreat, expect accommodation, all meals, the full class programme, at least one prenatal massage, and airport transfers. Flights are usually separate. Anything sold as an add-on that the retreat depends on, like the classes themselves, is a sign you are looking at a venue rather than a programme.
